An exercise on buying bitcoin with a credit card or paypal on Virwox

I keep seeing posts here by people wanting to know how to do this, or other people advertising the method using Virwox.com. You CAN get bitcoins this way, but it IS expensive. I have done this many times because I sometimes get given money by paypal, and I cannot withdraw it to a bank account, so need to spend it online. I checked my paypal balance and saw I had 170 Euros in it, so decided to do an exercise to see how many bitcoins I can get for that using Virwox. This is the result:
Started with 170 EUR Deposit into Virwox via Paypal = charges of EUR 0.35 + 3.4% Total landed into Virwox account: = 163.89 Convert to SLL: I want to sell 163 EUR, and get at least 51,547.97 SLL. Note: The above amount already includes our exchange commission of 50 SLL + 2.90%. Convert to BTC: I want to buy 0.223 BTC, and pay at most 51,597.93 SLL. Note: The above amount already includes our exchange commission of 50 SLL + 2.90%. Total after conversions: 0.223 BTC = 145.6 EUR on Bitstamp
Moral of the story, ONLY do this method if you have no other alternative.
TL;DR - Pay 170 EUR for 145.6 EUR worth of BTC if you use Virwox to by using paypal or credit card.

Does VirWox work for buying Bitcoin with Credit Card?

I really need to buy bitcoin with a visa debit card, and really don't want to have to go through coin.mx's whole verification with video and last 4 of ssn. Does buying SLL still work? And say if I were to buy about 40 dollars of SLL, how much Bitcoin would i receive back? Also if there is a way to buy bitcoin with debit card/credit card with no pain in the ass verification, please let me know. Thanks a ton.

Hi, I’m launching the MVP for my website this coming week to see if anyone is actually interested in what I’m creating. It allows the buying/selling of Bitcoin anonymously and buying Bitcoin with PayPal and other FIAT. It with be similar to VirWox is the sense that it will allow people to buy Bitcoin with PayPal. Buying bitcoin on the site will take more effort on the users end but the process allows users to not have limits/not provide ID and use over a hundred other FIAT methods including PayPal. It will also allow you to use gift cards, prepaid cards or just straight up credit/debit. This is non custodial, non p2p and does not require KYC
If anyone is interested in this please let me know, I’m launching soon and I don’t want to pursue something fully that no one will spend money on.

Little bit of help... Coinbase + visa + Bank of America = my debit card to getting shut down and reissued.

I live in the US and was looking for the simplest way to buy and sell Bitcoins and came across coinbase. Set up an account with them and linked a credit card and checking account and bought $10 worth of Bitcoin to get my feet wet. Next I try to sell $1 worth Bitcoin to make sure the system is working.
In theory this should have deposited directly into my account but in practice it equal them calling me and issuing me a new debit card. There was no fraud involved, they just did not like that.
I can still purchase Bitcoins with the credit card I have linked to coinbase but now I am at a loss for what I should do with them besides hold onto them for long-term investment. I'm looking for a good workflow of buying and selling. I'm not trying to daytrade but I would like to be able sell with convenience.
Also, I have breadwallet. Is this a good place to keep my coins long term?

New to bitcoin, ended up with ~300SLL at VirWox after trading for BTC. What should I do with it?

Looks like it's not enough to trade, but could be given away to an SL user?

New to Bitcoin, feeling jaded. (bit of a rant)

Thought i'd share my perspective as someone who has just now started using bitcoin.
Not a day has gone by in the last year or so that i haven't seen something about bitcoin. Certainly the praises are high. So when i saw something i'd like to buy listed in bitcoin i decided to pull the trigger and buy in.
I was surprised to see my options for using my credit card did not appear to be very numerous.
After some reading people suggested to use virwox as they are supposed to be fast. I sign up deposit $50 into virwox which ends up as 47.xx after fees only to discover i can only buy SSL or second life money (that's a thing?) to transfer that into bitcoin. Convert the 47.xx to SSL..there'll be a fee for that. SSL to BTC? fee there too, withdraw your btc? you guessed it another fee. At this point i'm out over $5..that's over 10% in fees!
Whatever let me just transfer to my wallet and buy my item and i'll be done with it. Oh..you have a new account? there will be a 48 hour hold until we transfer to your wallet.
Now the price of my item is set in USD ($43) and obviously the price of bitcoin is ever changing. Now i'm just hoping i'll still have enough BTC to buy it by the time my funds are released to my wallet.
Obviously i went about transferring my money the wrong way. I know bitcoin is just starting out and everything. I want to trade in bitcoin to support it....but you guys are not making it easy. I can't begin to imagine what it would be like for the average non technical user.
tldr; too many fees, virwox sucks, must be impossible for someone non technical to get into btc.

my data going to the IRS (bitcoin user; Coinbase)

no idea what to do here. received the notice last night. had hundreds if not thousands of transactions on my coinbase account. about $30k worth of sells in 2014 with 12k in buys. however, adding up all of my buys and sells at coinbase and the other 3 services i used to buy bitcoin (coin.mx - defunct, trucoin - defunct, virwox), i'm way down...to the tune of ~$15k for 2014. Haven't even looked at 2013 or 2016 yet, but I'm 100% sure it's a similar story. I live in the world's shittiest apartment, almost nothing (sub $1k) in checking, no retirement, and a load of student loan & credit card debt. I don't even know where to start. I have nothing to hide; I'd welcome the IRS into my apartment and give them a key. I obviously can't afford a lawyer or CPA. I'm in the process of tracking down my bank account statements for those 3 years because they would at least show the transactions of funds going out of my bank account and funds coming back in. It's a bit nerve wracking to get an email from Coinbase regarding an account that was closed 2 years ago stating "contact an attorney promptly". Agghhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

need some advice fast!

Hi guys, here is my problem:
After seeing the Athene video , I tried to get myself into cryptos. I didnt know shit at first , it seemed complicated but i managed to learn the basics in a day. Decided to finally buy some Prps for myself but i hit a couple of brickwalls:
I know that Athene is thinking about allowing investors into this crypto soon , and i feel like i will miss this one-time opportunity if i dont buy it soon. Time is running against me and i lack solutions for now.
My problem is first that i dont possess a credit card. Ive tried to get one but they refused me because i dont currently have a job since i work in the construction sector (we dont work in winter). So i cant get my hand on a credit card for now. So i cant buy anything...
Then i tried to go for a site that accept Interac-online but i learned that it require a week to do a single transfer. Its too long. Plus , every site i tried required a Verification that takes 3-5 days. Now thats almost 2 week.. its too long.
And most of those verification also require a Credit card or other document that i dont possesses (Driver licence (lost it) , passport (not up to date) etc).
Im also canadian and some sites dont allow Canadian dollars through interac-online. So i Bought a bunch of prepaid visa cards for Coinbase thinking it would work.. but it didnt.
In short :
-No time
-No credit card
-Bunch of prepaid card in hands
-Canadian
-Lacking documents
I know Paypal accept Prepaid cards but then how do i get Ethereum ? Paypal-Virwox(bitcoin)-shapeshift-metamask?? and how many time will it takes? Would it be fast enough before the real prps launch?
Is there another way? Is there a site that allows Canadian prepaid card? A site that doesnt require a 5 days verification? Something i dont know? Please guys the sharks are coming and im not ready.

How to Buy Bitcoin with PayPal

How to Buy Bitcoin with PayPal
In order to buy Bitcoin, casual investors want to avoid the complicated process of setting up an account with exchanges or going the mining route – two rather detailed and laborious processes. Thankfully PayPal offers a more convenient method to acquire digital currencies.

How to Buy Bitcoins with PayPal through eToro

Pros: Accepts a variety of payment methods, low fees
Cons: Not available in the US
eToro is a platform that allows users to buy bitcoins with PayPal and is considered to be one of the easiest methods to do so. Worthy of note is that eToro does not enable users to withdraw or transfer bitcoins to other users, rather it allows users to sell Bitcoin only for fiat currency. Users do not need a bitcoin wallet to use eToro as they do not store any coins.

How to Buy Bitcoin with PayPal through VirWox

Pros: A reliable method
Cons: High fees
VirWox (Virtual World Exchange) – It is a platform that allows trading of digital currencies such as Lindens, Bitcoins, etc. This exchange has more than 400,000 registered users and is an authorized reseller of Second Life Lindens (SLL).
Here is a step-by-step guide taking you through VirWox:
  • Go to VirWox.com
  • Open an account – login to Virwox, register and fill personal details like username, email address, etc. Skip when asked for “avatar name” and enter all other necessary information and click “register”.
  • Activate an account – a confirmation email is sent to your account with a password. Login to Virwox with these credentials. It is advised to change the password before transferring money.
  • Deposit money through PayPal – to do this, ensure you have an account with PayPal and ‘understand terms of service’ allowed by PayPal for using SLLs to buy bitcoins. Deposit money into Virwox account via PayPal. Now you have a balance in your VirWox account to purchase coins with.
  • Go back to VirWox and buy SLL, and then buy bitcoins with your newly purchased SLL. Click “withdraw” to send your new bitcoins to your wallet. That’s it! Now you own Bitcoin!
VirWox charges fees for each transaction such as exchanging USD for SLL and then exchanging SLL for BTC. The fee structure of VirWox changes constantly so keep an eye on this every time you want to make a transaction. VirWox has been in the market for a long time and is currently the most reliable platform.

How to Buy Bitcoin with PayPal through Local Bitcoins

Pros: Various sellers from all around the world
Cons: High fees, chances of scams
Local Bitcoins is another marketplace where buyers and sellers meet. In this method, users can buy bitcoins with PayPal by finding a suitable seller with an excellent feedback score and large trade volume. Trading with new buyers involves higher risk, so sellers charge buyers high fees – keep that in mind!
  • Enter search parameters – go to Local Bitcoins and select your country and choose the amount to be purchased.
  • Choose a seller – a list of sellers is displayed by Local Bitcoins. Choose a seller who has a good feedback score. Each seller has trade limits which range from a minimum to a maximum amount of bitcoins required to trade.
  • Go to Payment window – buyer’s reputation increases per transaction and sellers prefer to sell bitcoins to buyers with a good reputation to avoid becoming a victim of fraud.
  • Complete the trade – after finding a suitable seller and entering the quantity of purchase, click “Send trade request” and your done!

How to Buy Bitcoin Using PayPal through Wirex

Pros: Normal fees
Cons: Withdrawing funds takes more than a week
Wirex is a leading company that provides virtual and physical bitcoin debit cards (which is just like a normal debit card). Users can use Wirex’s card to buy bitcoins with PayPal.
  • Request for a new physical/ virtual debit card from Wirex – login to Wirex and click on “request new card” and choose the card type. Users can use both physical and virtual cards to buy bitcoins via PayPal.
  • Link debit card details to PayPal account:
    • In PayPal account, go to “wallet”, select “add a card” to add your virtual bitcoin card. A minimum of $3 is required in PayPal account to verify this card.
    • A 4-digit code is generated, which is the verification pin for Wirex cards on PayPal.
    • Go to “wallet” and click “Withdraw funds” and choose “withdraw funds to your card” option.
    • Withdrawal would take up to 7 days to appear in Wirex account.
    • Buy bitcoins with Wirex debit card.

How to Buy Bitcoins Using PayPal through Paxful

Pros: Wide range of sellers from all over the world
Cons: Chances of scam, high exchange rate
Paxful is the latest version of Local Bitcoins. It is a decentralized peer to peer marketplace and allows users to buy bitcoins with Skype credits, Amazon gift cards, etc. In Paxful, a seller sends bitcoins, buyer purchases and sends dollars to escrow. Once the trading is completed, funds are released to each party.
The process to buy bitcoins through Paxful is:
  • Create an account
  • To buy, select payment method by entering the desired amount
  • To sell bitcoins, select “seller manually” or allow Paxful to decide who the best seller is.

Final Thoughts…

Cryptocurrencies are tentative, complex and involve high risks as they are highly volatile. Before buying bitcoins through PayPal, ensure that the terms and conditions of PayPal and bitcoins are well – understood to make your transactions secure.

Buying Bitcoin(s) without using ID/credit card

Hello Reddit-Users,
I am underaged. That means I have no credit card and it's very hard for me to buy bitcoins. I know this website: www.virwox.com - here you can buy bitcoins with PaySafeCards but only if you have an psc-account which means you have to make one of these ID-checks. I also know: localbitcoins.com but I don't live in a big city and there is no near "bitcoin-meeting". At this point I need your help: Do you know options where I can buy Bitcoins without credit card or releasing my ID to a company? I am very grateful for every useful comment.

How can I buy bitcoin with a Visa Gift Card?

I've been searching around, and I've seen this question asked a lot. But it always gets a bunch of different and conflicting answers, and the OP never seems to update with his eventual solution. I'm sorry if you guys are tired of hearing this.
I have a few hundred dollars in Visa Gift Cards, and I'd like to use it to purchase bitcoin. This will be my first purchase so it's all very confusing. The gift cards have the word "Debit" on them, if that means anything.
I've found that you can use gift cards to buy Linden dollars from VirWox and then exchange them for bitcoin. But it seems that this could take up to 48 hours for some reason. Is this the case? If so, I'd prefer a more speedy method if one exists. Also, VirWox seems to have a really low max amount (like $90 iirc) that you can buy at once. Is it possible to make multiple purchases at the max amount in a short time?
There are some people on LocalBitcoins who accept Visa Gift Cards, but they're charging like 150% the going rate for bitcoin, and I'm worried about being scammed. How can I know if users on LocalBitcoins are legit?
Some people claim to have had success with Circle, others claim no success. It seems to be pretty hit-or-miss. So what's the deal with Circle?
I've seen bitquick.co mentioned. All of the listings on their site say "Bank of America," "Any local credit union," "US Bank," etc. Is it possible to buy bitcoin with my gift card on bitquick.co, and how do I go about it/which listings can I use?
Purse.io has been suggested. I don't know much about it. How does it work?
I'd appreciate any advice on using these sites or any others you guys know of. I'd love it if I could find a way to purchase my coin in less then 24hrs, but if I must use VirWox and suffer a long wait, I guess it is what it is.
Thanks everyone!

I need help - CryptoWall virus infected my client's law firm. I need some bitcoins...

I need to pay these "cyber-terrorists" with bitcoins. I need to send 0.82 bitcoins in less than 34 minutes or else it doubles to 1.64 bitcoins.
I've been screwing around with this for over 24 hours. Where on earth can I buy some bitcoins using my credit card? I tried Coin Mama and WU/MG are declining all three cards. We contacted the banks and they are dumbfounded. I tried Coin.mx and there's a $250 limit. I tried VirWox and there's a $78 limit.
I'd buy them from a bunch of places if I knew I could get it all to add up to 0.82 bitcoins in time.
I would appreciate ANY help, guidance, hand holding, or even light extortion at this point. :(
EDIT: To clarify, this is a NEW client. They called me AFTER getting the virus. I always teach my clients safe backup habits, but I can't time travel. This is why I am trying to help them pay the fee to get their files unlocked. I've never had to go this far because I've never had a company call me out of the blue with this situation yet.

USD --> DOGE is a hassle

I was considering buying a graphics card to mine (I have intergrated NVIDIA graphics, no CUDA support). I figured, if I am shelling out the cash for a graphics card, why not buy DOGE directly? If only it were that easy, shibe, if only it were that easy. Here is my story of the past 2 hours. Hopefully my post will help you learn what does not work.
coinbase: my bank account did not support "instant verification" so now I am waiting for the verification transfer, supposed to take 2 business days. Waited for 2 weeks before and it never came . . . I will be more vigilant about customer support this time.
localbitcoins: no one wants to meet and sell for cash in my area (same w craigslist). Other than meeting in person, I don't really understand the online transfers behind localbitcoins.
dogefordollars: it's closed
buydogefrom.us: apparently out of dogecoin
bitstamp: requires bank transfer. I will stick to coinbase for the time being.
justcoin: requires bank transfer. seems reputable though.
virwox: seemed encouraging because they took credit/debit card. requires purchase of Second Life Linden dollars, but I am willing to do that. However, credit/debit deposit requires deposit through ANOTHER service called Skrill, at which point I say why bother.
/dogemarket: haven't tried it, but half the posts there are about scams, which does not inspire confidence on my part. Plus, I would like to avoid PayPal, which appears to be their primary method of payment.
I am a software developer and consider myself a technical person. I am trying to be somewhat private and secure about this whole process, which I suspect may be making the process much slower and more difficult than it would be otherwise. Can anyone confirm or deny? Is buying cryptocurrency really this annoying? I guess the difficulty of transferring USD is one of the reasons why Dogecoin and Bitcoin are good ideas in the first place.

Alternative to virwox for buying anonymous BTC

I just spent 2 hours for trying to find an alternative website to Virwox where you can buy bitcoins anonymously with a credit card from all over world, without any ID verification, through Skrill payment system.
So I am looking for an alternative website as they really charge you heaps, considering that you have to change to SLL first in order to buy BTC.
I am living in a country where there are no bitcoin ATMs.

Beware: VirWox.com stole my bitcoins.

I recently opened an account with virwox.com. Over the past few days I've been using it to purchase BTC from my PayPal account and Credit Cards. Today when i tried to log in I received the message: "Your account has been disabled!" I've sent an email and I'll update when/if i hear back.
I'd be careful with these guys. It looks like I've lost 3BTC ! :(
http://i.imgur.com/4PTbQ7T.png
edit: since sending a link to this post to VirWox.com support there have been 2 downvotes...paranoid me thinks they want to bury this.
edit #2: from VirWox Support:
"...thanks for the free advertising on reddit :-) It seems that the respondents understand quite well why we have to be careful when accepting credit cards for bitcoins, especially when warned about potential problems...."
Ok, maybe not an unfair response. Although they still haven't explained why my entire account has been disabled because of Skrill/Moneybookers complaints. I had an additional deposit through Paypal, which is ALSO unavailable.
Maybe the weirdest thing about all this is that PayPal didn't give me any trouble! :)
edit #3: It has been impossible to deal with either Skrill or VirWox. I've filed a complaint with Paypal, and will initiate charge-backs on the two credit cards when their statements post. Also, because i have the time and am ticked off, I've filed complaints with ic3.gov and econsumer.gov. So, that's it!

I have no clue what I'm doing, can someone please help?

I was trying to use Virwox to buy Bitcoin but whenever I try to enter my credit card info it just keeps saying that there was a problem making the purchase (it's a prepaid Visa, not sure if that's the problem). I tried using the Paypal option on the site but it says my Paypal account needs to be verified, which can't happen because I don't have a bank account.
I should mention that I also tried using Circle, but when I put in my card info, it gives me an error message, similar to the way Virwox was.
There is a simple purchase that'd I'd really like to make today and it's only $33 but the site only accepts Bitcoin. Is there any way at all that anyone can help me out? I just want to buy $33 worth of Bitcoin quickly using a prepaid visa card or Paypal.
PS- If you couldn't tell, I am a complete novice with Bitcoin and I have never used it before. But I'm not stupid and I'm a quick learner.
Help is appreciated. Thanks.
I doubt it, but if anyone wants to donate $33 in Bitcoin to me just for today so I can purchase this item (it's kind of urgent), I would absolutely pay you back. We would figure something out. I'm not shady or trying to steal your money. I'm verified on /giftcardexchange and whatnot. I'm a nice guy, I'm just looking for some help from a kind soul.
EDIT: I have resolved the issue after you guys introduced me to localbitcoins. Thank you!

currently use VirWox. 177 dollars turned into 145 dollars because of all the percentage shaving they did. Looking for another option. Any suggestions?

I used to use circle.com and it was perfect. Instant credit card (or Paypal) direct to bitcoin with no charge. They quit dealing in bitcoin, so I was forced to look around. Found a few websites that required a bunch of identity proving, which is constantly denied due to my ID card being cracked. Virwox is instant and easy, but it costs money to put some in your account. Then you transfer it to SSL and that costs money. Then you transfer it to bitcoin and that costs money. Then you move it to your wallet, and that costs money. 177 is what I paid for but by the end of it, I had $145 in bitcoin. Any instant, easy websites like circle.com out there?
